I highly recommend (1) Marsden's Jonathan Edwards: A life (not to be confused with A Short Life of Jonathan Edwards) - which can be found at your library - and (2) Understanding Jonathan Edwards by McDermott, which I reviewed below ($24.95 or less).

What disappoints me about the beauty angle is that Edwards gets not the slightest notice from Balthasar. But then, B. didn't benefit from the global rise of Calvinism that is happening now so he must have had no inkling of Edwards's emphasis on beauty. No doubt, Balthasar is the one who made beauty a serious topic of thought again - without Balthasar, Edwards's focus on beauty would likely be looked at as an eccentricity.Fredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01262662173303042998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11834527.post-89492485269499248442009-07-20T08:42:09.289-05:002009-07-20T08:42:09.289-05:00"[Catholics] can't resist the glimmers of..."[Catholics] can't resist the glimmers of light wherever they break forth. I'd love to hear more on his "theology of beauty" - sounds very Eastern to me.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564684437473178371noreply@blogger.com
