To be Catholic is to be Christian, period

I will be posting a scanned in article over the next few posts. It's one of the best articles that I have ever read about Catholicism, about what it means to be Catholic, and about the Church. It was written by a former professor (Douglas Bushman S.T.L.) of mine who now teaches at AMU. It's title is "The Catholic Faith on the Church: To be Catholic is to be Christian, Period." It was published in September/October 1999 issue of The Catholic Faith and is not avaliable on-line.

Douglas Bushman is an Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at Ave Maria University. Professor Bushman holds a licentiate in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of Friebourg. His teacher and mentor while he was there was Fr. Christoph Schönborn who later become a bishop, archbishop and cardinal.

Besides numerous articles in Catholic magazines, he is the author of In His Image: Program of Renewal Through Education (1990), introductions to a new publication of The Sixteen Documents of Vatican II (1999) and several articles in the Catholic Encyclopedia of Apologetics and Evangelization (2002).

His work has included appearances on Catholic radio and television, and participation in several education-related apostolates, including: ProLife Minnesota, the Image of God religion textbook series, and the Millennium Evangelization Project. He has given lectures and retreats on a wide range of theological and spiritual topics for various groups, such as parents, parish staffs, young adults, catechists, seminarians and teachers.
