Secular Scriptures

Here is Gregory Wolfe's Editorial Statement for the current issue of Image. The book he references in this statement is Nicholas Boyle’s Sacred and Secular Scriptures: A Catholic Approach to Literature.

In regards to a "Catholic view of history" in line with Dawson, let's not forget Hillaire Belloc or G.K. Chesterton. One should also mention Regine Pernoud who has done great stuff on the Middle Ages. Henry and Owen Chadwick multiple volume Penguin History of the Church is outstanding as well. The best Ressourcement book of history outside of the actual works of de Lubac, Balthasar, Congar, Danielou and camp is that of Glenn W. Olsen. I highly, highly, recommend his book. Lastly, reading the writings of the actual figures who made history (the primary sources themselves) is always the best though... This is "ressourcement." We must read the actual writings of the Church Fathers, Desert Fathers, and doctors of the Church.
