where have all the chickens gone?

Something Wrong This Way Goes. I Was Having Eggs for Breakfast...
I was having eggs for breakfast when, as I was eating, I almost dropped my spoon upon a thought -----where have all the chickens gone? All the animals natural to the homestead? I looked at the eggs. It's unnatural not to have chickens around....isn't it? My grandmother used to have a chicken coop. What kind of "efficient," artificial, antiseptic, society have we concocted here in the United States where the closest one gets to nature is trimming suburban lawns, lest the neighbors think less of us? It is all terribly wrong and awry ----- substituting i-pods (a pod "in which" I exclude all others to be entertained to spiritual death all by myself!) and such things for the really real. God, break us out of these 'pods'! These pods of insularity of every superfluous technological kind, this utter madness, for which men and women kill and die to supply the energy! Restore us to peace, to balance, and family, and the sanity of creation, where God saw that everything was "good". Our Lord, born in a stable...surrounded by the real...the way, the truth and the life...
