Don't miss today's juicy comments on the War in Iraq and a response to Andrew Sullivan. - February 1, 2006
I'm getting sick of the daily promotion of Neuhaus's new book. Where is the man's humility? One cannot deny that he is a good capitalist, but where does his faith fit into that equation? I guess we will have to read his new book to find out. It should be on the dollar clearance rack soon enough.

God forbid that anyone should include a brief blurb at the end of their daily comments about their new book. How greedy of them.
/end well-intended sarcasm/
David, what the heck does humility have to do with mentioning your new book? It's a stretch to imply that someone who refers to their new book on a regular basis is -- on that basis -- prideful.
Nor is his faith a matter of debate, as you know in your less-heated moments :-)
I do have to say, I find it extremely curious that you'll go after Neuhaus and his books so negatively, but when it's Carville & Begala, you emphasize those aspects on which we can agree with them. One might think that you see Neuhaus as a greater threat to a more authentically human public square than Carvill & Begala.
Please assure me that that's not the case.
It's the "old man" coming out again... I have played nicely since the New Year and I beg my Neocon friends for forgiveness. I am looking forward to reading his new book. If it's as good as his essay, American Babylon, it will be a real treat!
Don't expect anything about faith from Fr. Neuhaus. About his Bush/Republican loyalties you'll hear much, however, I'm sure. Some Catholic this man, never quite capable of bringing himself to object to the Bush stem-cell farse in 2001. But vocal to a fault on his support of the Iraq violence even in the teeth of Rome's objections. What matters to Neuhaus are his personal connections to those that support the political outlook he favors, the Colsons and the Weyrichs, et al. Like James Dobson and Jerry Falwell on the Evangelical side, Richard Neuhaus has become nothing more and nothing less than a shill for the Republican Party. Catholics who are interested in keeping their faith clear of contamination need to take off the blinders when it comes to this bird.

Hmm, it appears that you are not a bad capitalist yourself, Major Jones... :: notices the numerous Amazon ads on the blog ::
NEVER ATTACK A PRIEST
"One should NEVER attack a priest, even when he's in error, rather one should pray and do penance that I'll grant him My grace again. He alone fully represents Me, even when he doesn't live after My example!" (page 29, Mutter Vogel's Worldwide Love, St. Grignion Publishing House, Altoting, South Germany (29. 6. 1929)).
When a Priest falls we should extend him a helping hand THROUGH PRAYER AND NOT THROUGH ATTACKS! "I myself will be his judge, NO ONE BUT I!" "Whoever voices judgment over a priest has voiced it over Me; child, never let a Priest be attacked, take up his defense." (Feast of Christ the King 1937) "Child, Never judge your confessor, rather pray much for him and offer every Thursday, through the hands of My blessed Mother, Holy Communion (for Him) (18.6. 1939)&nsp; "Never again accept an out-of-the-way word about a Priest, and speak no unkind word (about them) EVEN IF IT WERE TRUE! Every Priest is My Vicar and My heart will be sickened and insulted because of it! If you hear a judgment (against a Priest) pray a Hail Mary." (28. 6. 1939)
"If you see a Priest who celebrates the Holy Mass unworthily then say nothing about him, rather tell it to Me alone! I stand beside him on the altar!" "Oh pray much for My priests, that they'll love purity above all, that they'll celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with pure hands and heart. Certainly the Holy Sacrifice is one and the same even when it is celebrated by an unworthy priest, but the graces called down upon the people is not the same!" (28. 2. 1938)
Mary. Queen of the Clergy, pray for them.

Blosser taught me everything I need to know in this regards!
Were you lecturing, Matt, or simply shoulding all over yourself?
John Lowell
John,
I'm not sure who you're speaking to, but I was responding to S's comment. My response was written before I saw Matt's comments.
Blosser is the one that taught me about this option on Amazon. I find the preview feature of Amazon to be very helpful. It allows you to scan a book b/c purchasing it. It's not quite as good as being in a book-store, but many books are not in a book-store therefore there is little option but to mail-order it. I love books which is obvious to anybody that comes to this site.
Sorry - It allows you to scan a book BEFORE purchasing it.
Hello David,
I'd addressed Matt's comments above, actually, although for a while there I thought that it might be my mother come back from the dead in the form of Matt. :-)

I was not lecturing, I was simply informing you that we should never be critical of a Holy Priest, none of us knows what kind of temptations and workings Satan has released upon them
Matt
Matt,
Now that you've been honest enough to own the clear intention of your post rather than cowering behind the statements of others, I'd have to say that it would be impossible for me to consider your remarks anything but a lecture, Matt. You need to know in the clearest possible terms that I won't require any such arrogant or presumptuous correction from you at any time. At sixty-five years of age, with a full life behind me I'm not as apt as I once may have been to suffer adolescence of this sort. Save your ill-considered judgments for your high school friends.
