Fr. Andrew Greeley on Pope Benedict XVI

Greeley deftly one-ups David Gibson in this review of Gibson's bio of Pope Benedict XVI. Greeley's take is not bad, but it fizzles out in the last paragraph or so.

I just read this and was going to post it... You beat me to the punch! My opinion of it is the same as yours. Thanks.

Nice to see you, JN!

I once tried to read a lot by Greeley (I was liberal). My assessment of him is that he has always said lots of great stuff; unfortunately, he also says other stuff that's not so great (e.g. some old stuff was written in favor of a "third way" for priests). It has been said of him that he doesn't have an unpublished thought: this fault dilutes his reputation. In his favor, he's also remained free of rancor and bitterness.

JN, I think it would be great if you would post some of your things over here from time to time.
