This blog explores both historical and current events guided by the thought of the leading thinkers, past and present, of this school or movement of theology. Refer to the Classic Posts, Great and Contemporary Thinkers, various links of all kinds, in addition to the Archives themselves. David is the founder and manager of this website, but many friends contribute to it on a regular basis.
Apparently we are a controlled intellectual community. I simply stated Augustine quotes to the effect that "go forth and multiply" Gen.1:28 applied simply to Jews in Augustine's view and that it was odd that Luther, Calvin and modern catholic authors did not notice or note that. And the comment was denied apparently. We will never debate in the great schools of the world on behalf of Catholicism as long as we have to control and rig the data inflow into such discussions. Perhaps that is why a very active pro life priest wants to debate Hannity of Fox...an ex house painter. We're not really ready to actually debate the well read. Well for your own personal growth, here is another Father of the Church...Jerome....also taking Augustine's position: Against Jovinianus Book I sect.37 " It follows that what He merely permits is neither good, nor acceptable, nor perfect…..And again writing to the Galatians he says: Galatians 2:16 "Because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Among the works of the law is marriage, and accordingly under it they are cursed who have no children. And if under the Gospel it is permitted to have children, it is one thing to make a concession to weakness, another to hold out rewards to virtue."
Read all of that book and you will faint. Both Augustine and Jerome were against contraception but it is never mentioned that both had a negative attitude toward having children or large families. Once the Church runs out of places like Africa to convert and must confront well read populations like Japan, this suppression of historical facts that you are part of....is not going to cut it. We are going to come off as simply dishonest in the service of God. And that is not going to convert well read populations.
