Is Catholic doctrine conservative? Liberal? Socialist?
Using the CURRENT definition of "Conservative" vs. "Liberal" the Church's social doctrine is completely "conservative"; it is against: divorce and remarriage, use of contraception, abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, In Vitro Fertilization, gay marriage, extra-marital sex of ALL types.
The Social teaching of the Church also proclaims that human beings are endowed with several INTRINSIC human rights; beginning with the right to life which is not granted by the whim of a mother or "her doctor".
The social doctrine proclaims the right of people to own property, to associate freely, and in the principle of subsidiarity whereby a higher authority may not intervene in a lower authority's affairs unless necessary; so it's hard to see how the current Liberal drive to federalize everything via forced redistribution of wealth is a "Catholic" conclusion to politics.
In as much as the social doctrine also calls for charity and does not demand a tithe of each Catholic to pay for the multitude of CATHOLIC charitable enterprises, it's hard to make the case that the Church teaches the licitness of doing good via massive Government bureaucracies forcing people to give money to "the poor".
