Customary snippet, from a post entitled Patristics in Practice:
Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict, I believe is carrying on with the proper work of réssourcement in presenting the patrimony of the patristics. He is “going back to the sources” to introduce to modern man the not-so-different historical condition of man, particularly the plight of the faithful. He is convicting the faithful to live in light of our Catholic patrimony, observing and emulating the saintly examples of those men who have gone before us in establishing Christianity on earth. The pope presents our roots, our heritage, as does any good father, to compel his children to recapture their Christian identity - explaining what it means to be a Catholic in the world.
