They call Henri de Lubac and Jacques Maritain "unorthodox" and hate Ratzinger along with Rahner.

"Incidentally, Rahner’s redefining of “virginity” in order to undermine Catholic dogma reminds one of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger’s “redefinition” of the Immaculate Heart in his document that accompanied the “release” of the Third Secret. Here Ratzinger defines “immaculate heart” (lower case “i,” lower case “h” in Ratzinger’s document) as any heart that says “yes” to God."

It is difficult to take their "reporting" of "Rahner's Girlfriend" seriously.

Perhaps I am missing something. What made you decide this was worth posting and tweeting?

David likes to post these things so that folks have the opportunity to comment upon them.

Many Traditionalists really believe this stuff and other related posts/links. It shows us why the dialog with them is/will be so difficult.

Specifically regarding Rahner. Who knows if this is true or not but I have only one thing to add - Thank goodness it was at least a women and not a seminarian(s) or little boy(s).

On a related note - has anyone ever made like charges against Balthasar?

oh yes, and Danielou too!

Sorry for my confusion, and thanks for clarifying.

To your "thank goodness" I will add "and that he didn't actually *do* anything sexual!"

As far as Balthasar I have only heard the complaints against his relationship with von Speyr. But then again I don't typically go looking for this sort of thing.

Granted the fact that the author of this piece has such a biased and closed-minded understanding of Rahner, Congar, etc, one can't help wondering whether his account of the "affair" is equally slanted and one-sided.

Many years ago a well-known author on religious nmatters (at the time an Anglican, now a Catholic)told me (I think with tongue in cheek) that he was pondering writing a book entitled "Mistresses of the Great Theologians", and mentioned the name of two Protestant giants.

That a priest can be in love with a woman is a sign of his affection for God and his masculinity.

Much of the article is hogwash. Whatever Rahner's feelings were for this woman, he remained true to his vows. As for Balthasar, of course he suffered rumors about his relationship with Adrienne von Speyr. He lived with the Kaegis after all for quite some time. But that there was anything more to their friendship is pure speculation. But really, the piece coming as it does from a traditionalist who does not accept Vatican II and makes wild accusations about the persons involved in the council (he credits Rahner too much for the Council, as if the Council was the product of one man!!!) is not even worth sharing with others. It belongs in the garbage dump.
