Jonathan Edwards
It's the birthday of Jonathan Edwards, (books by this author) born in South Windsor, Connecticut (1703). He was a popular preacher of his day. He was considered the leader of the Great Awakening, the great religious revival that swept across the eastern United States before the revolution.

I highly recommend Jonathan Edwards: America's Evangelical by Philip Gura as an excellent introduction to those who have not yet read Edwards. I had hoped to write a review, but student teaching has precluded that.
